As it gets closer to our inaugural Don’t Forget The Bubbles conference in Brisbane later this year we thought it about time we showcased some of the amazing and inspiring speakers we have lined up for you. Coming from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences we hope that they will help us all become better at looking after unwell children and better at looking after each other.
Gabrielle has extensive experience as a registered nurse and midwife in clinical and logistics settings in Australia and overseas. These experiences combined with her role as a foster carer inspired Gabrielle to co-found the Queensland based children’s charity, Hummingbird House Foundation – with the express purpose of addressing gaps in services for Queensland children. The first project of Hummingbird House Foundation has been the construction and delivery of Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice for children affected by a life limiting condition and their families.
Gabrielle, and her husband, Paul, have since spoken at parliamentary inquiries, met with politicians, and shared stories to secure $11 million in government funding, and raised over $7 million through generous philanthropic and corporate donations. Hummingbird House officially opened in October this year to provide everything from short break stays to end of life care.
Gabrielle has been a member of the Palliative Care Queensland State Council and has represented Hummingbird House at the Statewide Child and Youth Clinical Network (Paediatric Palliative Care Working Group).
